Fruity Oats

Oats are a great source of carbohydrates which help to stabilize blood sugar as well as being a source of magnesium and iron. Served along with fruits this recipe will help your baby to feel fuller for longer and provide many vitamins and minerals.

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 cup of oats2015-03-04_0816
  • 2 apples
  • 2 pears
  • 2 bananas
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil (optional)

Method:

  1. Place oats in a pot with 1.5 cups of water, on the stove bring to the boil and then simmer for a few minutes until the consistency is thick and gooey.
  2. Peel apples, bananas and pears and cut up into chunks.
  3. Steam apples and pears until tender.
  4. Then put all ingredients in a blender or food processor and whizz until smooth.
  5. Either serve or freeze in pouches.

*if using quick oats the cooking time will be much less

 

Orange Puree

This puree will provide your little with a whole variety of their much needed vitamins and minerals, especially with the addition of spinach. What is more it contains good fats from the coconut oil and is rich in Omega 3’s which are provided by the avocado.

Ingredients:

  • 5 yellow peaches2015-03-04_0811
  • 1/2 cup diced mango
  • 1 banana
  • 3/4 cup spinach
  • 2 carrots
  • 1 medium avocado
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil

Method:

  1. Peel and cut up all the fruit and veggies, removing all stones and skin.
  2. Place the carrots in a steamer and put the spinach on top (as need less time to steam) and steam until they are soft.
  3. Then place all ingredients in high speed blender or food processor and whizz until
    smooth.
  4. Then freeze in pouches or serve immediately.

Pear Puree

No baby recipe book is complete without a pear puree, however conventional pears to tend to have a lot of pesticides on them so if organic is not an option for you be sure to wash them well before cooking, If your child is too young for dairy or is allergic leave out the yogurt and just blend up the pears.

Ingredients:

  • 3 Medium sized pears peeled and cored2015-03-04_0801
  • ½ cup natural yogurt
  • Pinch cinnamon

Method:

  1. Blend all ingredients together
  2. Pour into baby freeze trays

Strawberry Smoothie

This delicious smoothie will turn into a great frozen dessert or can be given as a breakfast or snack food. The fruit will provide your baby with vitamin and mineral and the addition of coconut milk will provide healthy fats for your baby. We also suggest adding chia seeds which turn soft and gelatinous when added to liquid, chia seeds contain the perfect ratio of the omega fats and are a great source of protein and iron.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup coconut milk2015-03-04_0807
  • ½ cup rolled oats
  • 1 banana cut up
  • 1 Cup frozen strawberries
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • ½ teaspoons vanilla extract

Method:

  1. Blend all ingredients together
  2. Pour into freezer trays and leave to stand for ten minutes before freezing as the chia
    seeds will become gelatinous and absorb some of the liquid.
